Frequently Asked Questions

What is "digital signage"?

Digital signage is the use of computer-driven displays, such as those based on plasma and LCD technology, to present dynamic information. Digital signage often makes use of not only text, but images, video and sound.

What can oneBox HD be used for?

Retail stores, call centers, shop floors, trade show floors and lobbies are just some of the environments where oneBox HD can be used. In fact, the system is so versatile, people are discovering all kinds of new and interesting ways to use it!

What makes oneBox HD different from other systems?

Some products only offer a playback/scheduling system for content you’ve created in other programs, while others are require the use of separate pieces of very expensive hardware and software to handle content creation and display. Some systems even require trained professionals to operate. The oneBox system is designed from the ground up to be a complete, easy, inexpensive system.

Can I divide the screen into “zones” with the oneBox HD?

Yes. You can divide your display into separate zones. Each zone can contain multiple pages that display in sequence. You can lay out each page separately with different backgrounds, text, images and scrolling properties, then decide how long each page will show on screen. Furthermore, you can create "scenes" each one with a different zone layout, and schedule those scenes in advance.

Do I need to subscribe to a web-based service to update content?

No. The oneBox unit is completely self-contained and contains its own server. No outside services are required

How easy is the setup?

Very easy. The first time you run the oneBox HD system, a step-by-step "wizard" will walk you through the process. Your digital sign will be operating within minutes.

What kind of computer and software do I need to manage content on the oneBox HD?

All you need to run the oneBox HD Manager is a modern web browser.

I have digital pictures and some graphics I created in other programs. Can I use those and continue to create content in other programs?

Yes. You can import images, movies, sounds, Flash, PowerPoint and live web pages into any oneBox HD layout.

How much control do I have over the look of my screens?

You have control over nearly every aspect of the look and feel of your content. You can make changes to colors, fonts, background colors or images (or upload your own). By also incorporating images, movies, sounds, and web pages, the possibilities are unlimited!

I'm not much of an "artist". Are there some built-in layouts I can use?

Yes. The system comes with a set of built-in "Themes" with attractive background graphics and color combinations. Just pick a theme and start creating your digital sign.

I am an artist, and I would like to customize the look of my digital signage layouts. Does oneBox HD offer me the tools I need, and not lock me into templates?

Absolutely. You can import all of the custom graphics you want, customize your backgrounds, and use Macromedia Flash files. All that's required to create visually stunning digital signage displays is your creativity!

Just how easy is it to use oneBox HD? I'm not much of a computer expert.

The oneBox HD Manager is designed to be familiar to anyone. The system uses friendly icons and an easy step-by-step approach to help you create professional-looking displays.

How easy is it to incorporate live television into oneBox HD?

It’s very simple. With oneBox HD’s optional TV tuner, you can add television to any oneBox layout with single mouse click!

Can I also incorporate live video sources, such as cameras and DVD players?

Absolutely. The optional TV tuner also includes composite, S-Video and audio-in capabilities

How do I use oneBox HD to drive the same content to multiple displays?

You can use VGA signal splitters and amplifiers to carry the VGA signal up to several hundred feet. VGA-to-CAT5 adapters are also available.

Can I set up a network of oneBox HD units?

Certainly. Right out of the box, your oneBox HD will find and connect to other units on the Local Area Network (LAN), or you can access remote units over the internet via a URL

Can I access my oneBox HD from anywhere on the internet?

Yes

Does the oneBox HD connect to the internet?

Yes. If an internet connection is present, oneBox HD will connect to it. This enables many convenient features, like software updates and downloadable enhancements.

What kind of displays does the oneBox HD support?

Any display device with VGA or DVI capability will work. This includes plasma and LCD displays, computer monitors, and some rear-projection televisions. oneBox HD also has S-Video out for connecting to televisions and video distribution systems

What about interactive applications?

With the ability to embed interactive Macromedia Flash applications and web pages, your oneBox HD can be an interactive system. You can plug in a mouse and keyboard or a touchscreen monitor.
